UK National Lottery Refuses to pay £4 Million to Duo who Bought Ticket with Stolen Debit Card

Two career criminals say they will call the police on Camelot for refusing to pay their £4,000,000 prize. Jon-Ross Watson (pictured left) and Mark Goodram (right), two friends from Bolton, Greater Manchester, are claiming that Camelot is being "unscrupulous" after it launched an investigation into their winning scratchcard. Watson (age 31) and Goodram (age 36) won the amazing life-changi[...]   Read more » UK National Lottery Refuses to pay £4 Million to Duo who Bought Ticket with Stolen Debit Card

Well if the debit card was stolen, then they are not going to get nothing out of it.
The perfect excuse for the company to keep the money and probably through it back in another ticket. As they should do if what they are claiming is true.
It will be interesting to see how this one will end.
Do you imagine the debit card being stolen, and they even went to the police with the whole story? Smile

I know about this news from few days ago,it was on some domestic site!it was problem with ticket, beacuse they need to show from which card they bought this ticket and they dont want to show it!they say that everything is beacuse of their criminal history and that they bought ticket few days after they exit from prison!dont know what is truth!

I read here about this case and it is very sad how certain thieves, want to claim a big prize with a stolen debit card. I believe they do not tell the truth because "their friend John" came immediately to clarify the situation, if it was true. They lie and will lose the prize which will be won by another person.

I am glad that they are not paying these pair out and well done to Camelot for withholding the money. These two guys think it is okay to steal things and do not think that they have done anything wrong

I think that's 2 different thing. Thief/steal and gambling. Is task of the casino to investigate the ticket was stolen from someone ? My opinion is casino responsibility to pay the winning, they are casino , not police ! If they just report to the police is okay but not pay ?? Casino just look for any reason not to pay

Great story. The thing about this - the lottery company may have enough evidence to really not have to worry about a payout, goods bought with stolen cards have no liability towards the original owner but in this case he might have some ownership over the winning ticket, lol...

Yea i doubt the if the card is actually stolen, that the original owner will get
something out of it Smile
Probably the most that he can get is the card back, and a refund for the money spent to buy the
ticket Smile
Still no more news on this, and it is an interesting story.
Wonder if we are gonna have updates.

I would love to appear this mysterious character John and to see his version, in which he lied, to share that prize with the two thieves. The two thieves may be looking for him, to attract him into an agreement, which is to the detriment of the national lottery in UK. Smile It's a good case and the final story it's very interesting.

Th is decision to not pay out the winnner of a ticket purchased with a stolen card is an absolutely correct decision. The option to give the owner of the stolen card is somewhat bizarre as they didn’t make the purchase. I am sure the bank that provides the card will refund the owner the lost money used to buy the ticket and that will be the correct decision also.

on the one hand of course Absolutely wrong that the lottery organizer refuses to pay the winnings .... They could pay at least part of the winnings to the people who stole the card so they would correct the situation ..... And so they become ordinary greedy people who feel sorry for the money winning ... complicated story

This could be one of those prepaid debit cards you could buy in gas stations therefore it's not that easy to track it months after purchase. Whole story stinks, though.

Of course, this is one of the group activities of criminals to buy lottery tickets on stolen credit cards, because if you win, you cannot avoid problems with the law, therefore such an act says a lot about the intellectual level of these criminals and Judging Because they are not paid any money.

Of course interested situations here but i personally think that if they buy ticket for debit card that is not their then it is good decision not to pay money to them, money can be pay to owner of card. They can make purchases for real money and then it is their wins

well if somebody was in jail few days before this win on lottery,he still dont have to be guilty in this situation!for me point is in that lottery still need some proof that they didnt payed this ticket or they even stole from somebody!would be nice to see end of this story at forum,if they publishe this!

This story has only one end from my point of view. These people will not win this prize and they will not have what to do. I'm sure this lottery has researched, after they found that these people was in jail and then checked that card. No money for they.

For sure that the Lottery will denied to give the 4 millions, i mean if they give the prize all the people who takes the credit or debits card to the pearson will decide to purchase a looot of ticket and that its not fair

Eventually you need a bank account to buy this ticket, because that's what it says from the investigation and they did not buy the ticket with personal card or cash money. This problem will be very heavy for the two buyers because they will regret their whole life that they did not win this prize.

Then how come the card's owner never claimed that the card was stolen?

if justice existed in the world, then this prize should have been paid to the owner of this card .... no matter what the purchase was made by fraudsters ... the most important thing is that the purchase was made from this card and the owner of this card must receive a prize .... But it is in an ideal world .... in the real world this will not happen
